Progress on Multiple Fronts

We’re making progress on multiple fronts as we head towards Christmas.  Here is an update.

Inside the chapel the insulators have finished which allowed the Sheetrockers to come in and hang the board.  Both the Sanctuary and Fireside levels are completely sheetrocked.  We are in the process of taping and mudding the joints.

Outside the chapel the siding is being installed.  The framers continue to work on the back patio.  And the excavators are building a rock wall which will be 13’ feet high in some places, that will outline our parking lot.

As we head towards Christmas we at Dooley Lodges have plenty to be thankful for and we wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Goin' Like Gang Busters

We're going like gang busters now that we've completed the "rough in"......

The framers have returned and are working on the front entrance and the back patio.  The front porch will be framed with 12”x12” Douglas Fir rough timber beams sanded and stained.  The picture on the right was taken from the deck of the back porch. It takes our breath away every time Wendie and I see the deer.  I think they are getting used to their new surroundings.

We have been blessed with good weather so far.  This has allowed Wendie to lay out some of the rock walls, planters and meandering side walks that will take our guests from the Sanctuary Level to the Fireside level.

The insulators are insulating and the sheet rockers are hanging rock.  Our goal is to have the taping and mudding done before Christmas.  The fireplace has also been installed on the fireside level.  Painting is not too far off so Wendie is pouring through color charts as we speak.  More to come with the next update (Blog).

Roughing It In

The mechanical trades are really getting after it this week helping to keep us on schedule.

The HVAC duct work is nearly complete.  The electrical wiring and gang boxes have been installed including the ones for the can lights which will illuminate the main sanctuary.  The plumbers have most of the piping installed including the "mop" sink and water softner.  This is the "roughing-in" phase and they will return after walls and flooring are installed to finish with fixtures, fittings and registers.

At last count we have brought in more than 100 loads of fill for the parking lot.  We believe we finally have it at elevation and now we are ready to start shaping, compacting and topping our two tier parking area.

In order to manage all the elevation changes on site we have incorporated a number of walls into our landscaping plans.  Here, our landscaping/excavating company Lewallen is building wall #R3/4.  Ultimately there will be stairs into the bride ready room from there.

We expect to finish the chapel by early March so that we can spend some time decorating the rooms and getting ready for our opening the end of April......

There's Alot Happening

Now that the chapel has been closed in the flood gates have opened and work is progressing on a number of fronts.

The framers continue with installing the cuppela and here is a front and back look at the windows facing the lake.

The mechanical crafts have started.  The plumbers are running supply and drain lines.  The "tinners" are running the HVAC ductwork and the electricians are stocking up on supplies.

We've done a lot of vanity shopping lately trying to get the look we want for the bathrooms.  Here are a couple we were looking at to retrofit with sink tops.  And the picture on the right is the mantel we picked up for the grooms ready room.

High & Dry

Since we got the roof trusses up we have been focusing on getting the chapel closed in or "dried out" as our builder likes to say.  Hopefully this will limit the impact weather will have on our progress.

The plywood has been placed on the roof and the shingles are being installed.  We should finish the roof this week.

The framers are continuing to work on the remaining list of things to do.  The stairway between the Sanctuary and Fireside levels is being built as well as the front and back walls.

Some of the doors and windows have been delivered and they are being installed as they arrive.  I was out fishing the other day and I took this picture from the lake.  The resort, with the green roof, is on the left and the chapel, nestled in the woods, is on the right.
We have received a lot of lighting recently.  This chandelier is one of 4 that will be running down the middle of the sanctuary level.  We are thinking about decorating them with some crystals.

Whew, it has been busy!! One of the couples has booked and two other bookings are pending....can't wait for the Grand Opening April 28th!! Watch for some photo updates next week!!  Happy Wedding planning!!

Doors & Windows

We are trying to stay ahead of the builder, so we have been picking out roofing materials, windows and doors. The front of the chapel will have double doors for the main entrance and will have 2 single doors on either side:  One for the bride ready room and one for the office.  Here is a picture of the style we have picked for the front doors.

Heading Skyward

Now that the sanctuary floor has been completed there is nowhere to go but up!  Thanks to the framers, who are a hard working bunch of guys, we are making good progress with the building.

Over the last 10 days they have installed the walls and the roof trusses for the sanctuary level.  These pictures face south which will be the wall with the floor to ceiling windows.  The view is still as spectacular as ever.

The framers built this  scaffold to work from while they installed the roof trusses.  We brought the crane back in to provide the heavy lifting.  Here they are installing the first roof truss.

Here are a couple of pictures looking south towards the lake.  We are starting to get a good perspective of the 30'x70' sanctuary area in the chapel. In the end the 3 roof system was installed without a hitch

Bride Ready Room

This is the look we are going for in the Bride Ready room's bathroom.  Although, our mirror will be an oval glass tilt mirror not brown wood and we will have white bead board below the chair-rail.  Getting ready to take several prospective couples on Chapel tours in the next couple of days....can't wait!!  The cookies will be waiting!!

Moving Right Along

Wow!  We've been having fun.  We brought in a crane to do some of the heavy lifting.

With the help of the crane the framers were able to put the vertical and horizontal 12"x12"x12'(+/-) beams into place.  We now have the Fireside level completely framed in.

The beams became the support structure for the floor trusses for the main sanctuary level.

Once the trusses were in place the crew was able to lay the deck for the main sanctuary level.  These pictures were taken at 7:00pm from the floor of the sanctuary for those looking for a spectacular backdrop.
